April Newsletter

Hello everyone and happy spring!  For the month April we are featuring two very talented Virginian artist. As usual, the opening reception will be during the First Friday Art Walk, April 5, 5-7pm.  Please join us to meet our featured artists and see their unique work:

Jessie Benson

Jessie Benson

Jessie Benson (Floyd County) creates beeswax and oil paintings using a technique she originated in 2013.  After applying several layers of beeswax to a cradled board, she carves intricate nature-inspired drawings into the wax and uses oil paint to bring her line work to life.  Jessie often includes her original poetry in her pieces as she explores themes such as love, family, and spiritual growth.

Maya Bohler

Maya Bohler

Maya Bohler (Roanoke) Over a span of more than 40 years as a potter Maya’s work has changed and evolved through many styles.  She has been inspired by the ancient Mayan Indian civilization and their hieroglyphics, the skill and beauty of Chinese brush painting, the serenity of Japanese landscaping and the abundance of her own flower and vegetable gardens. Underlying all these influences is her deep love for the natural world.
