May Newsletter

For the month May we are featuring altered-paper artist Martha Olson and new work by W&L student Mary Helen Powell. The opening reception will be during the First Friday Art Walk, May 3, 5-7pm.  Please join us to meet our featured artists and see their unique work:

Martha A Olson
"I was born and raised in Morgantown West Virginia and I earned my degrees in higher education at West Virginia University, and now I call Blacksburg, Virginia home. After many years of professional administrative work and raising a family, the time has arrived for me to fulfill a long-delayed life truth. My truth to become an artist. I have chosen paper as my preferred medium because of it’s common and humble existence projecting a perception in our society that paper has little importance.
Paper is everywhere.
Paper is taken for granted.
Paper is plentiful.
In other words, paper is ubiquitous, thus providing an untapped source of creative potential that I cannot ignore."
